Downtown Austin with the Little Man

Great food, awesome company, tons of sun, and constant laughter and smiles, these are the ingredients for a perfect day. The little man and I treated ourselves to one of these days while in Austin. The sun was shining as we walked and played along Shoal Creek for the second day in a row. In search of a breakfast spot not overflowing with SWSXi attendees, we traversed Congress, 2nd, 6th, 5th, Lamar and various hotels. It was lunch by the time we ended up at Corner restaurant inside of the JW Marriott.

Backyard in the ‘Burbs

My favorite things about my little man include his never ending energy and his love of the outdoors. He is always on the go with antics that simultaneously freeze my heart in fear and make me laugh out loud (talk about sending mixed messages!). He loves all balls, but is especially enchanted by any ball currently in use by people older than him.

Running Around Shoal Creek

One of my favorite things about Austin (downtown or any part of this great city) is that you can be sipping on fantastic margaritas one minute, walking along the river the next, and hopping in a kayak or on a tour boat to watch the bats right after. Being outside and active isn’t something you think about in the morning and plan into your schedule; it is a way of life. It is almost more work to avoid this lifestyle than it is to achieve it – maybe that’s why everyone is so happy and nice.

Check-in | JW Marriott ATX

As far as I’m concerned, any hotel stay that welcomes us with a glass of sparkling wine for the hubby and I and cucumber water for the little man is fantastic and truly understands customer service, not to mention first impressions. As the bubbles sang and danced across my jet-lagged taste buds, I realized that the quality was a step or two above the two-buck-chuck I was expecting (did I mention first impressions?). Big props to the JW Marriott ATX for getting our trip home started on such a light note. As you can see, despite 6+ hours of travel and airports, even the little man was smiling (I think he just liked all the attention from people in the hotel).

Pomegranate Margarita at Cantina Laredo

Sometimes all you need is a really good margarita. You know what I’m talking about – those days when you’ve spent a combined 6 hours in airports and on a plane with a toddler, and a husband. Now you are all jet lagged, hungry, thirsty, tired, and slightly irritable – not to mention wondering just how you’re going to get through the next 6 days without daycare when the last 6 hours left you feeling like this.

Airplane Packing

I love organization. An organized, uncluttered, clean space is my ideal. I will spend extra time at night picking up, putting toys away, cleaning the kitchen, and folding laundry just so the space will be relaxing when I get out of bed the next morning. This slight obsession with organization has spilt over into my packing style and that is a very good thing given that both nature and nurture and have pushed me in the direction of being an over-packer. …

Austin | A Trip Home

When you’ve lived somewhere, moved away, moved back, moved away again, and still can’t wait to get back, you probably know where your heart lives. For me, this place is Austin, TX. I moved there after college and fell head over heels in love with this quirky, fun, relaxed, loving city. After moving around the country with stints on both coasts, the hubby and I finally made our way back only to have to move away less than a year later.
